Ireland still short of energy

In the present day situation of global warming awareness and expected fossil fuels shortage, Ireland has defined a new strategy for its energy future. The country is strongly dependent of its imports to ensure increasing needs. The share of renewable energies remains small but is increasing in a significant way. Academic research is also looking towards the ocean energy which represents an important potential resource and which has led to the creation of innovative realizations. More generally, the Irish energy policy is guided by strategic pluri-annual plans which fix the goals and means. (J.S.)
