Anisotropy of internal friction and modules of elasticity for monocrystalline niobium

Description

Anisotropy of internal friction and modules of elasticity for niobium monocrystals obtained by electron-beam zone melting has been investigated. The investigation has been carried out on the samples of three orientations < 100 >, < 110 >, < 111 > by the torsion pendulum method in the temperature range 20-400 deg C at the torsional oscillation frequency 11-14 Hz and bending oscillation frequency 3-4 Hz. It is shown that in the investigated temperature region the Snook relaxation activation energy 1,17 eV is observed. The value of the relaxation peaks of the internal friction temperature dependence is a function of the type of oscillations and sample orientation. For three basic crystallographic directions of the monocrystalline niobium the values of shear and elasticity modules have been obtained
