High-temperature irradiation experiment with combined NiCr/Ni-thermocouple/noise thermometer sensors

  • 1. Kernforschungsanlage Juelich G.m.b.H. (Germany, F.R.)

Description

Two combined thermocouple/noise thermometer (TC/NT) sensors were tested within the framework of a joint irradiation experiment between JAERI/KFA in the Japanese Material Testing Reactor (JMTR) at Oarai by the Reactor Instrumentation Laboratory (RIL, JAERI, Tokai-mura, Japan) and the Institute of Reactor Development (IRE, KFA, Juelich, FRG). Both combined TC/NT sensors operated perfectly during the whole experiment. It was possible to carry out NT measurements with accuracies better than 0.5%. The drifts of the TC's in the combined sensors (0 6 mm) were in the range of measurement uncertainties up to the end of the irradiation. No irradiation or temperature-induced effects could be detected here, (no inhomogeneity error of the first kind). The drift of the relatively thin control TC (0 1.6 mm) amounted to 5-10 K towards the end of the experiment, caused presumably by the high temperature, not by the radiation
