Energy amplification in a DC linear accelerator of macroparticles for impact fusion

Description

The acceleration to hypervelocities of charged macroparticles of lanthanum hexaboride by a high DC voltage is considered. Such a voltage is applied through a combination of resistance, capacitance, and inductance allowing one to enhance by a factor two or three the energy of the beam. Fusion reactions are expected when such a fast beam crosses a slow beam of uranium hydrides (UD3, UT3). The eventuality of a concomitant fission process is also considered. ((orig.))
