Description

This paper presents an evaluation of the proposal to change the guide thimble material from stainless steel to zircaloy for the fuel elements of the first core of ANGRA 2. This evaluation is based on the comparison of the calculated average discharge burnup of the 193 fuel elements considering stainless steel and zircaloy guide thimble. The results show a gain of 1.1 MW d/Kg U in the average discharge burnup of the first core for the fuel elements with zircaloy guide thimbles, that corresponds to an additional 30 effective full power days.
