Sub critical reactor for accelerator driven systems

  • 1. Theoretical Physics Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Accelerator driven sub-critical systems are attracting worldwide attention due to their superior safety characteristics and potential for burning actinide and fission product wastes. This article highlights certain special features of these systems from the Indian perspective of Th utilisation. Some ADS configurations being presently studied at BARC, and the research and development efforts in Physics and Engineering, that would be required for developing sub critical reactors for ADS in India are also discussed.
