General approach to a workplace study. Workplace study in conventional radiology. Gamma densitometer workplace study

A first document presents the different components of a general approach to a workplace study for a workplace presenting a risk of exposure to ionising radiations, in order to assess, in normal working conditions, doses which may be received by the staff. Thus, it aims at avoiding risks, at assessing unavoidable risks, at struggling against risks, at adapting the work to the worker, at replacing what is dangerous by something which is not or less dangerous, at defining collective and possibly individual protection measures, and at giving appropriate instructions to workers. This approach comprises a preparation of the study (definitions of objectives, work organisation, used equipment, workplace and its environment with its various risks, postures and ambient factors), a dose assessment (mapping of installation dose equivalent, determination of contamination levels, dose associated with each task), and the exploitation of results and the return on experience (dosimetry and personnel classification, optimisation of radiation protection, anomalies and incidents). The second document reports a workplace study in conventional radiology. It comprises a presentation of regulatory elements, the preparation of the study (installation description, procedure assessment, work organisation), a dose assessment (task selection, mapping of dose equivalents, measurement instruments, presentation of two examples), a description of the procedure of result exploitation and of the optimisation of radiation protection. The third document reports a gamma densitometer workplace study. It comprises a recall of regulatory elements and of study objectives, analyses work organisation, issues to be addressed about the used equipment, operation procedures and modes, the workplace and its environment, how doses are to be assessed, and how results are to be interpreted.
