The influence of production conditions and rhenium additions on the mechanical properties of fluoride tungsten-rhenium alloys

Description

Studies were made into the influence of deposition temperature and rhenium additions on the strength, brittle-to-ductile transition, adhesive strength of fluoride tungsten-rhenium alloys, which were produced by deposition of respective fluorides at a reduced pressure of ∼ 2·103 Pa. It is shown that rhenium additions introduced into tungsten at vapor-phase co-deposition of Re/W fluorides lead to the increase in the bending strength from ∼340 MPa of tungsten up to ∼800 MPa of tungsten-rhenium layers that include about 11% of rhenium. The brittle-to-ductile transition temperature Tx decreases in this case from ∼ 600 degree C down to ∼ 200 degree C. The influence of the co-deposition temperature Tdep in the 450...650 degree C range is less pronounced
