Spectroscopic studies of electron surface states on liquid helium

  • 1. Bell Labs., Murray Hill, N.J. (USA)

Description

Electrons can be bound above the free surface of liquid helium in a potential well formed by the weak long-range image attraction and the strong short-range electron-helium atom repulsion arising from the Pauli exclusion principle. Results of experiments to study transitions from the ground state to excited states in the well are presented. (Auth.)
