Description

Incorporation of 14C orotic acid by etiolated, greening and green wheat leaves was studied. Plants in each set of experiments possessed similar amounts of RNA and its free constituents with an exception of uracil and uridine. Some dissimilarities were observed in specific activities of several compounds. The obtained data show that after illumination of etiolated seedlings there occurs no additional accumulation of RNA and its free constituents. However, differences in specific activities suggest that light may stimulate a turnover of nuclei acids in the cell. (author)
