g Factors of high-spin yrast states in 232Th and 238U

  • 1. Max-Planck-Institut fuer Kernphysik, Heidelberg (Germany)

Description

Extremely large precession angles (0.24 rad) have been observed when Coulomb-excited, 2-MeV/A actinide recoils decelerate in ferromagnetic Gd. In both 232Th and 238U the g factors increase above spin I = 18h. This is the first direct evidence for rotation alignment of i 13/2, protons in the actinides. In 232Th there is also evidence for alignment of j15/2 neutrons below I = 16h. (author)
