Skeletal scintigraphy for followup of fracture healing during electrical stimulation

Description
The influence of slowly pulsating bipolar sequences of rectangular pulses upon bone growth was investigated in animals. Control was achieved by analysis of bone mineral content, analysis of stability by use of the 3-point-bending-assay and by skeletal scintigraphy using sup(99m)Tc-diphosphonate. The results show up, that changes of mineralization are controlled by scintigraphy at an early time delivering reliable information concerning the efficiency of electrical stimulation. A case report demonstrates successful clinical use of the implantable electrical stimulator JES 2. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Tierexperimentell wurde der Einfluss niederfrequenter bipolarer Rechteckimpulsfolgen auf die Knochenneubildung untersucht. Als Kontrollmethoden dienten u.a. die Knochenmineralanalyse, die Festigkeitspruefung im 3-Punkt-Biege-Versuch und die knochenszintigraphische Verlaufskontrolle mit Tcsup(99m)-Diphosphonat. Die Ergebnisse weisen darauf hin, dass die Szintigraphie Mineralreaktionsvorgaenge fruehzeitig erfasst und zuverlaessige Informationen ueber den Effekt der Elektrostimulation zulaesst. In einer Kasuistik wird der erfolgreiche klinische Einsatz eines implantierbaren Elektrostimulators JES 2 anhand szintigraphischer Verlaufskontrollen demonstriert. (orig.)Additional details
