Thermodynamics of ion exchange on sulphonated copolymers of styrene and divinyl benzene

Description
The free energies, enthalpies and entropies of the exchange of alkaline earth metal ions for H+ and Li+ on KRSx8P sulphostyrene resin have been calculated and it has been established that the values of ΔG0 and ΔH0 increase in absolute magnitude with increase in crystallographic radius, while the values of YΔS0 are almost the same for all the exchange processes. An anomalously strong interaction with the resin relative to other alkaline earth metal ions is characteristic of the Ba2+ ion
