Study of the influence of diffusion on the flow velocity, for binary mixtures in Poiseuille and Couette flows

Description

The influence of diffusion on the flow of binary mixtures of incompressible fluids in POISEUILLE and COUETTE flows, is studied. The constitutive equations sugested by SAMPAIO and WILLIAMS and by STRUMINSKII for the constituent stress tensor and for the diffusive force are used. Results show that diffusion does not influence the flow in the case of planar and circular COUETTE flows. On the other hand, diffusion does play an important part in planar and circular POISEUILLE flows. (Author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Para misturas liquidas binarias, de constante concentracao, estuda-se e quantifica-se a influencia da difusao, nas velocidades de fluxo, em escoamentos classicos de Poiseuille e Couette. Utiliza-se as equacoes constitutivas de SAMPAIO e WILLIAMS para o tensor de tensao das especies constituintes da mistura, e o de STRUMINSKII, para a formulacao da forca difusiva atuante entre tais especies. Os resultados obtidos indicam que nao ha influencia do mecanismo da difusao, nas velocidades de fluxo das especies, nos casos de escoamentos tipo Couette Planar e Couette Circular; para os escoamentos de Poiseuille Planar e Poiseuille Circular os resultados indicam, em funcao da natureza das especies constituintes, influencia significativa do mecanismo em estudo.
