Moessbauer-effect spectroscopy at low temperatures
Creators

Description
The article deals with the Moessbauer-effect spectroscopy (MES) at low temperatures. Gamma-ray emission and absorption processes, fundamental to a clear insight into the principles underlying the Moessbauer effect are cutlined. It is followed by a discussion of applications of MES, especially at low temperatures. MES makes an attractive tool in solid-state physics and chemistry, with interesting applications in biology, mineralogy, geology and archaeology. Isotopes, including 57Fe, 119Sn and 151Eu are also suitable for MES. Hyperfine interactions can be measured by means of MES. The magnetism of solids and superconductivity can be included in the application range of MES
