Description
Full text: A novel and un-conventional Marx generator with the ratings of 300kV, 6kA and 180J has been developed for generating high power pulsed electron beam. This Marx generator has the advantages of higher peak power rating, compactness, low cost and reliability in comparison with the conventional pulse-forming network (PFN) Marx. The generator can deliver about 3 times more current than a conventional Marx made of discrete components. The basic energy storage elements of this Marx generator are folded pulse forming line (FPFL) modules developed by APPD with the help of a capacitor manufacturer. The Marx generator configured in to modular construction has been commissioned at 220kV, 4.4kA and 100ns (FWHM) pulse into an electron beam load. This high power pulsed beam has a number of applications, like material processing, radiography, laser pumping, microwave generation, etc. This paper describe about the design detail of Marx generator and FPFL modules, results of the present work, and suggestions for improvements. Presently this generator is being used for beam generation experiments at DAVV, Indore
