Description

A new approach to the problem of producing functional polymers to be used as membranes durable to chemicals and sorbents selective to metal ions has been developed. The majority of the monomers and polymers used are acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, polyethylene and fluorine containing polymer. The preirradiation technique is mainly used. Membranes made ion-permeable by attaching hydrophilic groups can now be effectively used in some types of batteries, such as silver oxide primary cells, and nickel-cadmium cells. The applicability of selective adsorbents to some special separation problems is demonstrated by laboratory experiments. (author)
