The clinical value of direct magnification radiography in orthopedies

Over 700 macroradiographic examinations have been carried out using a microfocus tube with a stationary anode and a tungsten target. Several of these patients were under the direct care of the orthopedic service and the value of magnificant both to the orthopedic surgeon and radiologist is discussed. Its value in trauma, tumors, infections, and in arthrography are discussed with illustrations. Erosive arthropathies, metabolic bone disease, and other osseous problems are not discussed although experience indicates that magnification has a very significant role to play in all of these entities. No technical problems have been encountered with endurance and quality of the microfocus tube. Technologie ease, any desired screen film combination and automatic processing all make direct magnification radiography a very practical and valuable complementary tool. Short exposure time is reflected by the high resolution obtained in pediatric patients. (orig.)

Ueber 700 makroradiagraphische Untersuchungen wurden mit einer Mikrofokusroehre mit stationaerer Anode und einem Wolframtarget durchgefuehrt. Einige der Patienten waren in orthopaedischer Behandlung und der Wert der Vergroesserung fuer den orthopaedischen Chirurgen und den Radiologen wird diskutiert. Ihre Rolle bei Traumen, Tumoren, Infektionen und in der Arthrographie wird anhand von Abbildungen besprochen. Erosive Arthropathien, metabolische Knochenerkrankungen und andere Knochenprobleme werden nicht behandelt, obwohl die Erfahrung zeigt, dass die Vergroesserung in all diesen Faellen eine wichtige Rolle zu spielen hat. Hinsichtlich der Lebensdauer und Qualitaet der Mikrofokusroehre gab es keine Probleme. Die einfache Technik, die beliebig waehlbare Schirm/Film-Kombination und die automatische Verarbeitung machen die Radiographie mit Direktvergroesserung zu einem praktischen und wertvollen ergaenzenden Instrument. Die kurze Belichtungszeit zeigt sich in der hohen Aufloesung bei paediatrischen Patienten. (orig.)Additional details
