Description
Use of an unbevelled slit in place of a bevelled slit at the ion source is shown to result in a simultaneous improvement in the time and energy resolutions of a cyclotron beam. Energy spread is measured from the elastic scattering spectra of alpha particles from gold and carbon targets. It has been further shown that gating the energy spectrum with a slice of the α-rf time spectrum also improves the effective experimental resolution. In both cases significant improvement in the peak-to-background ratio has also been noticed. (orig.)
