A high-rate area X-ray detector for ESRF applications

  • 2. European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, Grenoble (France)

Description

In order to meet the foreseen requirement for a very high rate electronic X-ray area imaging system for application on ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) beamlines we propose a gas counter design based on the use of microstrip detector technology. Using independent resistive divide readout on a large number (>500) of closely spaced strip anodes we hope to achieve global readout rates approaching 108 counts/s with a spatial resolution of 0.3 mm FWHM (Full-Width Half-Maximum) over an active aperture of ∼ 150mm square. Preliminary results of our development programme are reported. (author)
