Magnetic surfaces and flux coordinates for omnogenous open confinement systems

Description

A possibility of a plasma equilibrium with a high-β parameter is one of the important advantages of an open confinement systems with a straight axis. open-quotes Orthogonalclose quotes systems with magnetic surfaces, passing through magnetic vectors B and [B∇B2] are of special interest. In this case, a condition of MHD plasma stability, using characterized by a refusal from the axial symmetry, can be provided without forming the secondary currents, flowing along the magnetic lines of force. To consider the influence of a high-β parameter on a magnetic configuration, as well as on the orthogonality conservation condition, one has to develop treatments for numerical simulation of a plasma equilibrium in open magnetic systems, having principally anysotropic pressure. In this work, information required to solve this problem is given. Flux magnetic coordiantes based on the definition of equilibrium magnetic surface are introduced. A relation between the orthogonality condition for open systems and a quasi-symmetry condition for closed toroidal systems is found, using a requirement for the existence of integral equations for drift motion of charged particles. Algorithms of numerical solutions of equilibrium equations for a plasma with anysotropic pressure and high-β are suggested. 27 refs., 3 figs
