Electromagnetic design and multipacting analysis of the medium beta elliptical cavity for the Indian ADS

  • 1. Ion Accelerator Development Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

A 1 GeV linac is being designed for the Indian ADS Programme. The linac will consist of a RFQ, superconducting single spoke resonator (SSR) cavities and superconducting five cell elliptical cavities for accelerating the beam to 1 GeV. From beam dynamics, it has been found that two families of elliptical cavities will be required for acceleration of the beam from 200 MeV to 1 GeV corresponding to βG = 0.6 and βG = 0.8. The detailed electromagnetic design study of the 5 cell elliptic cavity has been done. The design has been done to optimize the peak electric and magnetic fields in the cavity for the maximum accelerating gradient. For the optimized elliptical cavity, multipacting analysis is also presented. (author)
