Scale profiling for evaluation of deposits on steam generator tubes in vertical Re-circulating U-tube steam generators

  • 1. Westinghouse Electric Company (LLC), Monroeville, PA (United States)

Description

Steam generators are vital components in nuclear power plants and it is necessary to accurately know as much as possible about the condition of the steam generators to maintain them in the best working order. One area of concern is deposits on the tube surface and in the tube support structures. A number of different methods for controlling and managing the deposits of the steam generators have been employed. All of these methods suffer from limitations in assessing the state of deposits on the tubes. Westinghouse developed the Scale Profiling methodology to allow an accurate assessment of the deposits on the tube surfaces over the complete generator. (N.T.)
