The ultrastructural changes in the small intestine epithelium of mice after 1,000 rad whole-body irradiation and administration of radioprotective substances
Description
The effectivity of the radiation protection agents aminoethylisothiuronium (AET), thiamintetrahydrofurfuryldisulfide (TTFD), and S-vinyl-mercaptal-N-vinyl-pyrrolidon-copolymerisate in the eptihelium cells of the small intestine of mice is studied, and the ultrastructural changes found are compared with epithelium cells of the small intestine of control animals irradiated without any previous treatment. With AET, the structural changes after irradiation with 800 and 1,000 rad were smallest, and there was an earlier and more complete renormalization of all cell components. A comparison between the results obtained with TTFD and PVP-copolymerisate shows a more pronounced structure conservation effect of PVP-copolymerisate than of TTFD. (GSE/AK)
