2005 annual report of the Strahlenschutzkommission

Description

According to Article 2 of the rules of the Strahlenschutzkommission of 9 January 1999, the SSK is to inform the responsible Federal Minister about the protection against ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. This comprises: Expert opinions and recommendations for assessment of biological radiation effects and dose-effect relationships; Development of recommendations for dose limits and derived limiting values; Monitoring of the population exposure, exposure of special population groups, and persons occupationally exposed to radiation; Initiative and consulting in the development of regulations and special measures for protection against ionizing and non-ionizing radiation; Consulting in the development of recommendations for emergencies and planning of measures for reducing radiation exposure in case of nuclear accidents and disasters; Development of general dispersion models for radionuclides released into air and water from nuclear facilities and in technical and medical applications of radioactive materials; Consulting of the BMU in the evaluation of radiation protection recommendations by international commissions; Consulting of the Federal Government in its cooperation in international commissions; Consulting of the BMU in the design of research programmes on radiation protection and scientific accompanying of such programmes.
