Shut off nozzle for liquid metals
Description
The isolating valve is used in pipes carrying liquid metal - especially sodium. It can be sealed completely by freezing small amounts of liquid metal. The casing of the valve is connected with nozzles. Within the casing rotable plug is mounted on a footstep of stellite. Between the casing and the plug there is a gap of about 1 mm. Through the hollow plug, a penetration is running. The plug can be rotated by means of a spindle led out of the casing. A cooling or heating liquid is fed through a channel in the spindle to the interspace beetween the penetration and the wall of the plug. As heating or cooling liquid, hot or cold nitrogen is used. With it, the liquid metal in the gap between plug and case may be frozen or melted. The backflow of the liquid takes place in the interspace between channel and inner wall of the spindle. (DG)

Der Absperrhahn wird in fluessigmetall - insbesondere in natriumfuehrenden Rohrleitungen eingesetzt. Er ist durch Einfrieren geringer Mengen Fluessigmetalls vollkommen abdichtbar. Das Gehaeuse des Hahns ist mit Stutzen verbunden. Im Gehaeuse sitzt auf einem Spurzapfen aus Stellit ein drehbares Kueken. Zwischen dem Gehaeuse und dem Kueken besteht ein Spalt von ca. 1 mm. Durch das hohle Kueken fuehrt eine Durchtrittsoeffnung. Das Kueken kann mittels einer aus dem Gehaeuse herausgefuehrten Spindel gedreht werden. Ueber einen Kanal in der Spindel wird dem Zwischenraum zwischen der Durchtrittsoeffnung und der Wand des Kuekens eine Kuehl- bzw. Heizfluessigkeit zugefuehrt. Als Kuehl- oder Heizfluessigkeit dient kalter oder heisser Stickstoff. Mit ihm ist das Fluessigmetall im Spalt zwischen Kueken und Gehaeuse einfrierbar oder auftaubar. Der Rueckfluss der Fluessigkeit erfolgt im Zwischenraum von Kanal und Innenwandung der Spindel. (DG)Files
