Electromagnetic response functions in quantum hadrodynamics

  • 1. Technische Hochschule Darmstadt (Germany). Inst. fuer Kernphysik

Description

Elastic, inelastic and quasielastic electron scattering probes the electromagnetic response of nuclei in a wide range of energy and momentum transfer. We review electromagnetic response functions evaluated in relativistic models of nuclear structure, based on baryon and meson degrees of freedom (quantum hadrodynamics). Results obtained within different models and approximations of quantum hadrodynamics are compared with data. We emphasize constraints of current conservation and selfconsistency. Random-phase correlations are important and have different impact in different kinematical regimes. (orig.)
