Energy transition, a lever for economic development and local jobs. Ademe et Vous, La Lettre Strategie Nr 56, September 2018

This publication discusses results of two studies performed with the ADEME support on the impact of ambitious regional scenarios of energy transition on employment: the quantification of jobs of the 'Third Industrial Revolution' in the Hauts-de-France region, and the quantification of social-economic impacts of the 'Positive Energy Region' (RePOS) in the Occitanie region. In the first case, three energy scenarios have been defined. The method of assessment of direct and indirect impacts in terms of jobs is presented and discussed. It is notably based on the use of the TETE tool, the benefits and limitations of which are discussed. For the second study, context and challenges are recalled, and the macro-economic modelling is presented (use of the ThreeME model, calibration of the model with regional data and characteristics). Results are discussed in terms of impact of the RePOS scenario on GDP, on investments, on job number, on sector jobs, on household energy expenses. A comparison between both approaches is proposed.
