Description
Actinides are produced in nuclear fuel in PWR reactors. Some of them are long-lived radio-isotopes. The two avenues proposed within the framework of the SPIN programme are selective separation of fission products and definitive storage of actinides. Within this project, a conditioning process having great perpetuity must be defined, and we expect specific waste conditioning (high performance materials) to be performed. Based on our fundamental studies of natural analogues, two types of phosphate materials are candidates and have been investigated: monazites and apatites Synthetic phosphate materials are presented.
