Study of genetic effects in plants induced by natural radioactivity in southwest France

  • 1. Universite Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France

Description

Southwest France has a number of radioactive areas with an average background rate ranging between 1 and 30 μrads/h. Reference response curves were established for the α1+/α1 α2+/α2 system of tobacco in the artificially radioactive site of the French Atomic Energy Commission at Cadarache (137Cs); the response was found to be linear between 10 μrads/h (background) and 1 rad/h. The response of the system, together with that of the waxy system in Barley, was then studied over natural uranous sites in the Permian Basin of Lodeve (Herault) and the area of Lagravette
