X-particle production in π-p collisions at 38 GeV/c moment um

Description

Production of chi particles in the reaction π-+p → chi+... is investigated in the nearthreshold region. The experiments have been performed at the 70 GeV accelerator by means of the hodoscope spectrometer GAMS-2000. The chi particles were identified by their decay chi → J/psi+γ, J/psi → e+e-. In the region investigated, Xsub(F) approximately equal to 0.4 (where Xsub(F) is reduced longitudinal momentum), the fraction of the J/psi particles produced via the psi-particle decays amounts to 0.44+-0.16 of their total number. The distributions of the psi particles in the longitudinal and transverse momenta are similar to those obtained for the J/psi particles. The cross section of the inclusive production of psi particles (3P1 and 3P2 states) at the incident momentum of 38 GeV/c is σsub(Xsub(F)) > 0(π-p → chi+...)=28+-11 nbn
