New control rooms in Sweden

  • 1. Royal Institute of Technology, KTH (Sweden)

Description

In Sweden two Nuclear Power Plants the Ringhals 2 PWR (start 1974) and the Oskarshamn 1 BWR (start 1971) are in the process to extensively modernize their respective main control room. The International Electrotechnical Commission on Swedish initiative and under the direction of a project leader from Sweden prepared a report entitled: IEC 62096, Nuclear Power Plants, Instrumentation and Control, Guidance for the decision on modernization. The most severe accidents of the nuclear industry in a great part occurred due to insufficient instrumentation, the operators were lacking much needed information, about the status of the process they controlled to be able to make the correct decisions. The lessons were learned and applied to the modernisation work
