New control rooms in Sweden

In Sweden two Nuclear Power Plants the Ringhals 2 PWR (start 1974) and the Oskarshamn 1 BWR (start 1971) are in the process to extensively modernize their respective main control room. The International Electrotechnical Commission on Swedish initiative and under the direction of a project leader from Sweden prepared a report entitled: IEC 62096, Nuclear Power Plants, Instrumentation and Control, Guidance for the decision on modernization. The most severe accidents of the nuclear industry in a great part occurred due to insufficient instrumentation, the operators were lacking much needed information, about the status of the process they controlled to be able to make the correct decisions.
