Permissible crack size in the frame of a water-cooled, water-moderated reactor

Description

The theoretical determination of the permissible crack size is outlined for the example of a semielliptical crack under the weld seam in the shell of the reactor frame. The crack is in the basic metal of the shell in the melting zone, and is oriented along the frame axis so that it opens under the action of axial stress. The ratio of the crack depth l to its length at the fusion boundary 2c is one third. The shell material is 15Kh2NMFA steel. The following shifts in critical brittleness temperature of the steel are determined: as a result of aging of the material ΔT/sub c/ = 50C; as a result of cyclic damage ΔT/sub N/ = 00C; and as a result of neutron irradiation (a/sub f/ = 230C neutron-13 cm-2) ΔT/sub f/ = 920C; the critical brittleness temperature of the steel in the initial state ΔT/sub Co/ = -250C; the temperature margin ΔT/sub M/ = 300C.usin
