Description
Experimental efforts to produce superheavy nuclides, especially elements 110 and 114, are treated. Experiments with Cr 54 bombardment of Pb 208 at Dubna, Kr 84 bombardment of Th 232 at Orsay and Xe 136 bombardment of U 238 at Dubna are mentioned and discussed. Finally the promising results of long term high energy proton irradiation of tungsten, which appeared to have produced element 112, but which it has not been possible to repeat, are mentioned. (JIW)
