Description

cis-Dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes of bi-, tri- and tetra-dentate Schiff bases derived from 2-benzoylpyridine and monoamines, such as, p-anisidine, m-phenetidine or p-toluidine, and diamines, viz., o-, m- or p-phenylene diamine are reported. Reactions of the bi-, tri- and tetradentate Schiff bases with [MoO2(acac)2] in ethanol medium in 1:1, 1:2 and 1:2 molar ratios, respectively, yield diamagnetic molybdenum(VI) monometallic complexes of the composition, cis-[MoO2(L)(OEt)2] (where L = bidentate Schiff base derived from monoamine) and the ligand bridged bimetallic complexes, cis-[Mo2O4(L1)(OEt)4] (where L1 = tridentate Schiff base derived from o- or m-phenylenediamine or tetradentate Schiff base with p-phenylenediamine). These complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductances, IR, UV/Vis, 1H NMR and CV studies. (author)
