Procedure and equipment for regenerating cooling traps in liquid metal circuits

Description

This invention refers to cold traps employed in a liquid metal system to precipitate and remove impurities. It particularly applies to sodium or sodium-potassium systems used for transferring heat in nuclear energy generating plants. A process was sought that would determine if the cold trap contained an excess of hydride or oxide type impurities and to remove such impurities from the cold traps without having to dismantle them. An improved apparatus has been developed that includes a cold trap and enables the impurities contained in the cold trap to be removed whilst maintaining the latter in the liquid metal system

Abstract (French)

La presente invention se rapporte a des pieges a refroidissement qu'on utilise dans un circuit de metal liquide pour precipiter et eliminer les impuretes. Elle s'applique tout particulierement aux circuits de sodium ou de sodium-potassium qui servent au transfert de la chaleur dans des installations de production d'energie nucleaire ou d'autres installations de production d'energie. On a recherche un procede permettant de determiner si le piege a refroidissement contenait un exces d'impuretes du type hydrure ou oxyde et d'evacuer ces impuretes du piege a refroidissement et permettant d'evacuer les impuretes contenues dans le piege a refroidissement en maintenant celui-ci dans le circuit de metal liquide
