Magnetic cumulation generator as a power source to accelerate intense electron fluxes

Description
Magnetic cumulation generators (MCG) are now the most powerful pulsed sources of electromagnetic energy which provide currents of hundred million amperes and more that 100 MJ energy. The diversity in MCG configurations developed and matching techniques with various loads makes it possible to use MCGs as power supplies for a wide range of devices. One of the more attractive MCG applications is their use to supply various charged particle accelerators. The MCG applicability to power high-current pulsed air-cored betatrons was shown. The explosive experiment was carried out, where electrons were accelerated up to 100 MeV energy. In this case 106 J energy was produced in the electromagnet. The power source, i.e. MCG, having low internal resistance about 10-3 Ω, was matched with relatively high-impedance betatron electromagnet coil using inductive coupling, such as pulse cable transformer. This paper is related to studying the possibility to use MCG coupling and fast-rising current pulse shaping devices to supply a high-current accelerator of intense electron fluxes, i.e. vacuum diode. Such a power source would provide short current and voltage risetime
