Nonstationary effects during high-current electron beam transport in irregular waveguides

Description

The results of experimental studying the disturbance of the relativistic hollow high-current electron beam structure and change in the time constant of current stabilization during beam transport in irregular vacuum waveguide depending on the intensity of the external longitudinal magnetic field and transport distance are presented. Terek-1 high-current accelerator was used as the electron beam injector. The aximuthal disturbances of current density and strong change in the radial beam structure depending on the transport distance and indensity of the longitudinal magnetic field have been observed. It is shown that the time constant of vacuum current stabilization is dettermined by the processes of the beam space charge inherent magnetic and electric field formation. It is concluded that instability of hollow relativistic electron beams plays a significant part under aximuthal disturbances. Such instability can bound under certain conditions the vacuum current and change the current stabilization time and the electron energy spectrum
