Definition of protocol for quality control tests in computerized tomographers, applied in radiodiagnostics in the state of Rio de Janeiro

Computed tomography (CT) has revolutionized radiological studies, as it allows the visualization of anatomical structures in the planes: sagittal, coronal and axial, complements the diagnosis by image that allows to differentiate the density of the order of 0.5% between fabrics, whereas in conventional radiology the threshold is around 5%. The tomograph is subject to changes that impair their functioning, compromising the quality of the diagnosis. So there is a need periodic evaluations to verify that the system performance remains constant throughout over time. In Brazil, the technical regulation that establishes the basic protection guidelines radiology in medical and dental radiodiagnosis, and which provides for the use of diagnostic X-rays throughout Brazilian territory, it is Ordinance SVS / MS 453 of June 1, 1998. It determines the need to implement a Quality Assurance Program (PGQ), and a group of quality tests constancy in all equipment involved in the production of the X-ray image. optimization of the doses to which patients are exposed in CT exams, one of the basic principles in radiological protection, together with the principle of justification and dose limitation, as well as in relation to dose quantification - image quality in protocols used in CT exams. Such questions motivated the accomplishment of this work that had as objective to present a protocol for quality control tests on CT scanners applied in radio diagnostics in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
