Use of radiation and radioisotopes in agriculture is one of the most important fields of peaceful applications of atomic energy for societal benefit and BARC has contributes significantly in this area. The approach of increasing the productivity by genetically altering the crop plants appears to be more economically favourable and ecofriendly in the present scenario. Growing such genetically improved varieties along with the best cultural practices can significantly boost productivity
