Control of the axial ion motion in the source 'Krion'
Description
In the multicharged ion source 'Krion' ionization processes are controlled by controlling the axial ion motion. This is achieved by shaping the potential distributions (PD) on the drift tube sections at given time instants. The described device designed for shaping PDs, uses a conductive coupling of the drift tube sections and given potentials. When a superhigh vacuum of about 10-12 torr has been achieved in the source 'Krion', the use of the device permitted the effective time of ion trapping in an electrostatic trap to be increased up to 500 ms.
