Transfer of 131I and sup(95m)Tc from pasture to goat milk

  • 1. Oak Ridge National Lab., TN (USA)

Description

The purpose of this research was to compare the behaviour of 131I (Tsub(1/2)=8.0d) and sup(95m)Tc (Tsub(1/2)=61d), which were sprayed on to pasture that was subsequently grazed by a herd of dairy goats. The transfer of 131I to goats milk was about 5600 times more than that of sup(95m)Tc after 5 d of grazing contaminated pasture. Most of the difference appeared to be explained by a progressive immobilisation of technetium on vegetation, which occurred during the first few days of the experiment. (UK)
