Description

A solid state analogue of the gaseous ionization chamber is attractive, particularly due to the resulting increase in sensitivity. The basic physical principles underlying such devices are examined and methods by which practical difficulties have been overcome are described. Attention is paid to recent developments, particularly in respect to detectors possessing internal amplification. The possible use of semiconductor electrical conductivity detectors as absolute dosimeters is considered. (author)
