Aim Experiment to Study the Influence of HTR Helium Environments on the Structure and Mechanical Properties of Primary Circuit Materials
Description
A number of materials of current interest to HTR applications are being exposed to the reactor coolant environment at about 700°C in the by-pass duct of a heat exchanger in the primary circuit of the Dragon Reactor. The programme covers coupons, welded tube sections, bolt-shaped specimens and includes low and high alloy ferritic steels, austenitic steels, molybdenum and silicon nitride based ceramics. The experiment will study the nature and the extent of reactions which occur under reactor operating conditions and the possible failure mechanisms that might be enhanced by such reactions. (author)
