Description

Our earlier developed preparation technique for multi-element analysis of rat liver tissue by proton-induced X-ray emission spectroscopy (PIXE) was used on pig liver and kidney and on human liver. The detection limits and the reproducibility of samples from the same organ were the same as earlier. Only As and Ni showed great variations within the same organ. The investigation did not elucidate whether these variations were due to a really different distribution of these elements or to experimiental errors. Unlike earlier investigations our measurements showed relatively small variations within the same organ (5-10 per cent) of the concentration of most elements in human liver.(author)
