Carbon and chromium oxidation during argon-oxygen blow-down in ladle

Description

Carbon and chromium oxidation process has been studied during the argon-oxygen blowing in the ladle through porous blocks. It has been established that the maximum rates of decarburization are attained when the gas mixture is fed at a rate of 1.0-1.2 m3/(t.min). The rate of decarburrization is also dependent upon temperature. At a carbon content of 0.027% the temperature rise from 1650 to 1750 deg C results in a two-fold increase in the rate of decarburization. The minimum loss of chromium can be obtained at a carbon concentration of about 0.10% prior to ladle blowing. The results obtained are compared with data published
