Dynamics of plasma pistons in rail guns

Description

At present much attention is given to the development of electrodynamic rail guns (RG) intended for the solution of a great variety of problems. Among these problems is the acceleration of particle - gas flows and macrobodies up to velocities 5 - 20 km/s. Realization of this idea that is sufficiently simple in its base is, however, difficult due to the unpredictable experimental results. This paper reports how be confirmed by the comparison of experimental velocities for projectiles ve with theoretical values calculated in terms of the ideal current-carrying conductor theory. In these experiments the authors used m0 = 1-5 g and lY = 1-5 m. At the initial region (lY < 1ymax; i < imax) experiment is in good agreement with calculation
