Description

Indus-2 is a 2.5 GeV Synchrotron radiation source at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore. Presently 13 beam lines are being used in round the clock operation, which are commissioned over the period. Indus-2 comprises of many subsystems like Radio Frequency, Magnet Power Supplies, Pulsed Power Supplies, Vacuum System, Beam Diagnostics, Beam Line Front End, Radiation Monitoring system and Low Conductivity Water cooling system. All subsystems are connected to main control room by dedicated control systems, which acquire the data and log at 1 Hz rate. In the event of machine trip, sometimes it is difficult to identify with 1 sec data that which subsystem is led to trip the machine. A distributed multichannel fast digitizer module is being developed to capture the data of critical parameters at higher sampling rate. This data will be used to analyse the cause of faults occurred during operation and need to fix them to have continuous fault free operation. Since the subsystems are scattered all over the Indus complex, the modules will sit at these subsystems and synchronized with external clock pulse. All these modules will be connected to host PC through Ethernet and RS485 links. In this module two independent 16 bit Analog to Digital Convertors with 2 MB RAM / channel is provided, that will capture data at 100 kilo samples/sec. This paper high lights the concept and implementation of fast digitizer hardware module. (author)
