QCD, unification and the road to asymptopia
Description
Attempts to describe interactions at extremely high energies are addressed. Previous beliefs that asymptopia - the theoretically promised land where all asymptotic theorems come true - was reached have always proven false. Present estimates of asymptopia range from 105 GeV to 1016 GeV. In the author's opinion it is premature to believe that the universe is described by a hierarchy of nested gauge groups. The establishment of QCD as the nonabelian gauge group describing strong interactions has not yet been accomplished. 2 figures
