This report summarizes experiences and results of the contractor's contribution to the 'Second Reliability Benchmark Exercise of the European Community on Common Cause Failure' (CCF-RBE). The choice of a method for the treatment of dependent failures in a given reliability analysis depends on the purpose and aim of this analysis as well as on quality and extent of the available data, which may also influence the necessary degree of detail of the analysis. When data are applied to a system with different degree of redundancy, two types of errors have to be avoided which lead to extremely pessimistic assessments. (orig.) With 20 refs., 3 tabs., 1 fig

Abstract (German)

Dieser Bericht stellt Erfahrungen und Ergebnisse zusammenfassend dar, die als Beitrag des Foerderungsnehmers in das 'Benchmark Exercise der EG ueber Fehler gemeinsamer Ursache' (CCF-RBE) Eingang gefunden haben. Welche Methode zur Behandlung abhaengiger Ausfaelle in Zuverlaessigkeitsanalysen im Einzelfall anzuwenden ist, ergibt sich aus Zweck und Ziel der jeweiligen Analyse sowie aus Qualitaet und Umfang der vorliegenden Daten, die ggf. auch den notwendigen Detaillierungsgrad der Analyse beeinflussen. Bei der Uebernahme von Daten ueber Systeme mit abweichendem Redundanzgrad muessen zwei Arten von Fehlern vermieden werden, die sonst zu uebertrieben pessimistischen Abschaetzungen fuehren. (orig.)
